Integration of AI in Education Beyond Cheating Toward Future-ready AssessmentsTaef Al Riyami, Einas Al Maqbali
ABSTRACT:
This research examines the dual impact of artificial intelligence in education, drawing inspiration from the rapid development of the usage of AI tools. The study explores how AI can enhance learning efficiency and educational outcomes while presenting challenges to academic integrity and fundamental skills development. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study involved 44 EFL students in Oman and surveyed 102 students from various educational institutions. Researchers analyzed students’ performance in both AI-assisted and traditional writing tasks while observing behavioral patterns and attitudes toward these technologies. Key findings revealed a 42% reduction in grammatical errors with AI assistance, yet 63% of students failed to fully follow instructions, demonstrating limited deep content understanding. While 91% of students reported using AI tools, 60.4% expressed the need for training in ethical usage. The study concludes with three critical recommendations: developing clear institutional policies for AI governance, redesigning assessment methods to focus on learning processes rather than products and strengthening academic values and transparency. These proposals align with the vision of balancing innovation with adaptation to technological change.
