The Urgency of Policy and Framework Reconceptualization in Higher Education in Response to the Integration of Artificial Intelligence

ABSTRACT:
The research addresses the urgency of reforms in currently held policies and frameworks within higher education institutions with the rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into learning and teaching. Practiced policies and frameworks often fail to align with the evolving concept of academic excellence, which is the critical measure of credibility and accountability of students’ degrees and qualifications. Reconceptualization is crucial, as the way we define academic objectives affects the way students are taught and assessed. Alongside, it is the bridge between graduate skills and market requirements. We have initially discussed the current understanding of academic excellence in the landscape of Constructivist and Transformative Learning Theories and how they miss out on the changes brought about by the rapid integration of AI into higher education. Following this, newly emerging shifts and adaptations of the discussed theories and how they aim to facilitate holistic and institutional incorporation of generative technologies are introduced.
