ABSTRACT:

The accelerated digitalization of contemporary society has profoundly transformed the ways in which individuals learn, communicate, and organize their cognitive experiences. Internet addiction has emerged as a growing concern, particularly among children and adolescents, who are in critical stages of cognitive and emotional development. This paper explores the relationship between internet overuse and memory functioning—both short-term and long-term—highlighting its psychological and educational implications.
The research combines theoretical perspectives from cognitive psychology and psychopedagogy with empirical findings collected from a sample of students and parents. The study reveals that excessive online engagement affects concentration, academic performance, social integration, and emotional balance. Eight cases of internet dependency were identified among adolescents, underscoring the vulnerability of this age group. Furthermore, memory processes are increasingly externalized to digital tools, raising questions about long-term cognitive adaptation and identity formation.
Beyond diagnosis, the study proposes preventive and intervention strategies to support healthy digital behaviors. These include awareness programs for parents and teachers, school-based workshops, and the promotion of balanced offline activities. By integrating psychological insights with psychopedagogical approaches, this work emphasizes the necessity of fostering resilience, critical thinking, and responsible technology use to ensure a harmonious development of youth in the digital age.
