Issues Affecting Education, Teaching and Learning: A Comparative Analysis to Overcome the Issues in Developing Countries
Mohamed Faslam Mohamed Abdullatheef
ABSTRACT:
This paper examines the critical challenges impacting education, teaching and learning in developing nations. Quality education fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and social harmony, contributing to national development. However, many underdeveloped countries struggle with systemic issues such as poor funding, outdated curricula, unqualified educators, economic instability, corruption, and political interference. These factors severely limit educational progress and hinder societal advancement. Through a comprehensive literature review and mixed-method research, this study explores the obstacles affecting education, teaching and learning. Findings highlight the need for modernized curricula, increased investment in digital and entrepreneurial skills, and the introduction of ethical and value-based education. The curriculum taught in universities in underdeveloped countries does not fit to 21st century challenges, and learners have inadequate digital, entrepreneurial and other soft skills, which lead to unproductivity of humans in workplaces and society at large. The paper recommends government prioritization of education funding, provision of resources, and policy reforms that ensure inclusivity and equitable learning opportunities. Addressing these concerns will help universities produce critical thinkers, leaders, and peacemakers, ultimately benefiting education, teaching and learning on a broader scale.
