The Effective Enjoyment of The Right to Full Health Within the Framework of Sexual, Reproductive, and Menstrual Rights Among Street-Dwelling Menstruating Bodies in Los Mártires Locality (2020-2024), Bogota- Colombia

ABSTRACT:
In Colombia, menstruation has faced taboos and stigmatization, often associated with dirtiness and shame. These perceptions have reinforced and reproduced myths and social imaginaries that perpetuate gender inequality. Vulnerable populations have experienced deeper exclusions from public life due to the lack of recognition of the body as a territory from which individuals exercise their full enjoyment of human rights.
This research aligns with the 7th Global Conference on Women’s Studies and follows the perspective of United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohamed (2018), who asserts that the neglect of menstrual health among women and girls significantly impacts all areas of their lives, violating their fundamental right to equality and participation in economic, public, social, and cultural life.
Given this context, this study examines: How has the effective enjoyment of the right to full health been ensured within the framework of sexual, reproductive, and menstrual rights for street-dwelling menstruating bodies in the Los Mártires locality from 2020 to 2024 in Bogota City, Colombia? Understanding menstruation as a multidisciplinary and intersectional issue is essential. This approach enables an analysis of street-dwelling menstruating bodies from an equal and differentiated perspective.
