ABSTRACT:
This study explores the organizational determinants of AI adoption in Korean SMEs, focusing on the mediating role of IT innovation readiness. Despite Korea’s technological advancements, SMEs face challenges such as resource constraints, workforce shortages, and insufficient IT infrastructure, which hinder effective AI integration. By extending the Context-MechanismOutcome (CMO) framework, we address the limitations of examining factors in isolation, incorporating Technology Readiness, Internal Readiness, and Security as mediating variables between organizational factors and AI adoption. The study employs a comprehensive methodology, including clustering techniques, measurement validation, structural equation modeling, and multigroup analysis, to systematically explore the factors driving AI adoption. The findings indicated that Internal Readiness, encompassing Data Management and Systematic Data Integration, as the most significant enabler of successful AI adoption. Also, SMEs should prioritize developing Internal Readiness, fostering a Culture of Continuous Learning, and cultivating Adaptability to overcome resource constraints and maximize the benefits of AI technologies.
