ABSTRACT:

Parental involvement is recognized as a significant factor influencing children’s educational outcomes. This study explores the nature of parental engagement in Botswana’s public junior secondary schools and its impact on academic performance. Using a qualitative approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with 18 participants, including parents, teachers, and school principals. The findings reveal a correlation between active parental involvement and improved student performance, but also highlight challenges such as low parental engagement due to career demands and a lack of awareness. The study recommends policy interventions to increase parental participation in education, which is vital for improving academic achievement.
