ABSTRACT:

In the fast-paced social context of China, Generation Z, as digital natives, is increasingly turning to the internet to seek new healing methods as they face emotional pressures from various aspects such as family, academics, and work. This paper explores the complex relationship between the rise of Five Phases Music Therapy (FPMT), a healing form based on traditional Chinese music theory, digital platforms, and the emotional challenges faced by China’s Generation Z. Focusing on Bilibili, a video community dominated by Generation Z, this study applies Interaction Ritual Chain Theory to view the healing behaviors of users under FPMT videos on Bilibili as successful interactive rituals. Through the use of the walkthrough method and discourse analysis, the paper examines how FPMT videos on Bilibili create a new type of healing space for Generation Z, providing emotional energy and social support. In addition to discussing the dissemination dynamics of FPMT in the context of new media, this paper also offers new perspectives on the development of traditional Chinese medicine culture in a localized digitalized context. As an emerging form of healing, FPMT demonstrates the vitality of traditional music theory, addressing broader societal issues in China, and providing new insights into the personalized and dynamic development of future healing methods.
