ABSTRACT:
This study examines the use of digital media in enhancing the participation of Nigerians in the 2023 general elections with focus on Ungwan Boro residents Kaduna. Literature reviewed indicated that digital media posit a new trajectory in election processes globally; this is following its successful use in President Barrack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaigns and its usage in Nigeria during the 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023 general elections respectively. Some Nigerians seems to have lost confidence in the electoral processes hence, the low participation in the process. The theoretical framework employed is Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Technological Determinism Theory (TDT) while the methodology employed is qualitative survey. Questionnaires were distributed to 100 respondents and findings indicate that residents of Ungwan Boro used the digital media fairly also, it enhanced their participation in the 2023 general elections. In view of these, study recommends that stakeholders in the electoral process in Nigeria should adopt the use of digital media and develop a well articulate communication plan over a long period before elections additionally; the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC should consider adopting electronic transmission of election results to rejuvenate the confidence of the general public in the electoral process.
