ABSTRACT:

This study explores the intersection of linguistic and visual anthropology in preserving the cultural memory of traditional folk crafts in Ajara, Georgia. It addresses the research problem of documenting and protecting the ethnographic uniqueness and national identity of the region’s traditional crafts, rooted in ancient Georgian culture but influenced by the Ottoman legacy. The methodology combines ethnographic fieldwork with interviews and analysis of visual materials (photos, videos and artifacts) to capture both tangible and intangible elements of Ajarian culture. Data collected from local artisans specializing in weaving, pottery and metalworking reveal intergenerational continuity and a distinct national identity that characterize this region, highlighting the importance of a holistic approach to preserving cultural heritage. The study concludes that integrating ethnolinguistic analysis with visual representation, supported by effective translation strategies, preserves Ajarian traditions for future generations and introduces them to an international audience.
