ABSTRACT:

This study investigated the effectiveness of group cognitive-behavioral therapy in reducing aggression, anxiety and negative self-concept of women suffering from substance abuse. This was a semi-experimental design of pre-test and post-test type with a control group. 88 addicted women were divided into two groups (n=44) and control (n=44). The experimental group received 12 group sessions of cognitive-behavioral therapy, while the control group did not receive any therapy sessions. The results showed that the subjects of the experimental group had a significant decrease in aggression (P<0.004), anxiety (P<0.002) and negative self-concept (P<0.05) compared to the control group. Although group cognitive-behavioral therapy was not effective in reducing the drug dose.
