ABSTRACT:

It is a fact that in the last 10-15 years the value of oral history in relation to historical and social knowledge has been scientifically recognized.  In particular, since the 1980s, oral history researchers have opened new paths in the interpretation of human experience, highlighting oral biographical accounts and narrated experiences as valuable material for social research. Thus – according to Tsiolis – the biographical narrative approach began to become a recognized scientific methodology for studying the ways in which social actors deal with the environment in which they are embedded and with social changes as they are refracted through their subjectivity. Based on the above, in the present research, four academic lecturers narrated their scientific and academic career so far, the factors that influenced this career, the adversities, but also the positive impact of their involvement with their teaching subject, as well as the way they faced or resisted the bad texts of the environment of Greek higher education.  The research utilized the methodology of narrative biography, as the interviewed lecturers recounted their academic career in an extemporaneous manner, recalling personal experiences and experiences. Through these narratives, qualitative data emerged, which were analysed, coded for common themes and led to some conclusions about the circumstances, visions and frustrations as experienced by teachers in academic institutions.
