Lene Birgit Vaala, and Hans Otto Ringereide
ABSTRACT:
This study aims to get an insight into how students attributes significance to different factors which seem to have an impact for their completion rate within a vocational school in a rural community in Norway. The school have for several years been the holder of the highest completion rate compared to the Norwegian average, whereby 87% completed within the estimated time, as well as 97% within the year completion. A survey was distributed to the students, where they were asked to decide on the different factors significance for their completion rate. A total of 142 of 147 students have completed the survey, which has provided a high response rate. Factors such as looking forward to attend school, having friends, well-being, coping, utility, relevance, the parents’ occupation and the student-teacher relation are among factors the students assessed as significant for completion. In addition, a control group survey was conducted within two city schools N=97.
