ABSTRACT:
The family and the social position of woman in Elbasan region, as well as in Albania country, during the period of Independence and between the two world wars, in the period of Zog I’s regime, has always aroused interest in the studies of different local and foreign authors. In this article, we have tried to highlight some of the main directions of this difficult position of woman, which is closely related to the historical, economic, social-political and cultural factors that have influenced this environment. Moreover, it is interesting to look at the position of women in the city and the countryside of this region, as well as that of Muslim and Christian women, based on their religious beliefs. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the position of women in marital and family relations, the level of education, the situation in the economic and social plan, but also her inclusion, real engagement in the social movements that aim the gradual change in her family and social situation. The reforms undertaken in the years of King Zogu I’s government aimed to stop the conservative politics and give women their rightful place in society. The broad and complex topic of the position of women in this period, has been treated relying on a series of archival and bibliographic sources as well as the press of the time.
