ABSTRACT:

Indonesia, the world’s fifth-largest archipelago, is united by the motto “Bhineka Tunggal Ika,” which signifies “Unity in Diversity.” The global and digital era presents challenges to the multicultural awareness of the younger generation. Schools can play a crucial role in strengthening this awareness through cross-disciplinary project-based learning themed “Bhineka Tunggal Ika.” This study aims to formulate a conceptual model, develop, and test the effectiveness of a cross-disciplinary learning model through the “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” project to enhance students’ multicultural awareness. The research utilized the ADDIE model of Research and Development, targeting students and teachers from a pioneering junior high school in Bandung City in 2024. Data collection techniques included interviews, questionnaires, and attitude scales. Data were analyzed using interactive qualitative methods, descriptive quantitative methods, and the N-Gain test. The findings revealed that: 1) the cross-disciplinary learning model through the “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” Project is project-based learning implemented across subjects within a co-curricular program at school, aimed at building multicultural awareness; 2) The syntax of the cross-disciplinary learning model includes preparation, contextual, action, reflection, and follow-up stages. The products generated include cultural performances, videos, articles, posters, and comics about Indonesian ethnic cultures. These cultural components encompass language, clothing, traditional ceremonies, arts, food, folklore, and more; 3) The implementation of the “Bhineka Tunggal Ika” project-based cross-disciplinary learning model effectively enhances students’ multicultural awareness.
