ABSTRACT:

This study aimed to examine typography design methods and manual techniques by conducting a design experiment that guides children on how to approach each letter. Children’s education is always a fierce topic focused by the whole society because they are experiencing the initial stage of learning, also the material for children’s learning is quite important. Researchers believe typography is a popular media and expression method in technology development, and art education plays a significant role in helping people better communicate. By adding handcraft activity to each letter’s characters, typography with illustration may also aid children in achieving a clear meaning of each letter’s collocation by means of expression, recognition and understanding through children’s cognitive development. The current research considers children’s learning challenges by analysing their learning material to approach new design considerations in typography and typeface experiments. This study shows through the innovative design approach method in children’s learning material, that a more engaging learning experience can encourage and inspire the motivation of children in their reception and learning preference. It can also improve children’s comprehension of the shape of each letter, through graphic visualisation.
