ABSTRACT:

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the digital parenting awareness of parents with children aged 10-13 and their neglectful behaviors towards their children. This study is a quantitative design. The study group consisted of 189 parents who had children aged 10-13, attending middle school, living in Istanbul city center (İstanbul), and voluntarily participating in the study. In this research, the “General Information Form” prepared by the researcher to obtain socio-demographic information about children aged 10-13 and their parents who participated in the research, the “Digital Parenting Awareness Scale” developed by Manap and Durmuş (2020) to determine the digital parenting awareness of parents, and the “Multidimensional Neglectful Behavior Scale (10-15 Years-Parent Form)” adapted into Turkish by Beyazıt and Bütün Ayhan (2019) to measure parents’ neglectful behaviors towards their children were used as data collection tools. The research findings indicate that there is a significant difference between the sub-dimensions and total scores of the Digital Parenting Awareness Scale and the gender of the children and the number of children parents have. However, there was no significant difference between the Digital Parenting Awareness Scale and the age of the children. On the other hand, there is a significant difference between the total and sub-dimensions of the Multidimensional Neglectful Behavior Scale (10-15 Years-Parent Form) and the age of the children and the number of siblings. However, there was no significant difference between the Multidimensional Neglectful Behavior Scale and the gender of the children. According to the research, it was found that there is a significant relationship between the sub-dimensions of digital parenting awareness and the sub-dimensions and total score of the multidimensional neglect scale.
