From Trust to Satisfaction: An examination of teachers’ job satisfaction and its underlying facets in multi-academy trust environments

ABSTRACT:
England is currently facing a teacher crisis, with issues evident in both recruitment and retention. It is therefore critical to improve job satisfaction in the teaching profession. This research investigates teacher job satisfaction in multi-academy trusts (MATs) in England, and how various facets contribute to satisfaction and dissatisfaction across different academy types within, and across, multiple MATs. A mixed-method design is adopted in semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire. Data will be collected from teachers in both converter academies (schools which have chosen to academise) and sponsored academies (schools forced to academise) at both primary and secondary level.
