The Development of Critical Thinking of Foreign Students in Comparison with Ukrainian Students in Terms of Informational and Psychological Impact
Prof. Dr. Sc. Svitlana Shekhavtsova
ABSTRACT:
The informational and psychological influence is becoming the most common means of achieving goals in domestic and foreign policy. The events took place in Ukraine are the result of such informational and psychological influence: the flow of information is becoming less and less controlled, as disinformation is actively used as a means of provoking conflict and manipulating national consciousness in the media. The scientific research is conducted at the interdisciplinary level, namely in the field of philology, psychology, and pedagogy. The importance of this particular research is that this concrete project provides an opportunity to compare the level of critical thinking of Ukrainian students and students of the European Union. The research work, conducted with Ukrainian students, shows that they do not have a high level of critical thinking, which negatively affected the consciousness of the Ukrainian population, in particular, students in 2014, when hostilities have begun in Eastern Ukraine. The research project helped in identifying differences in the perception of real and fake events between Ukrainian and Slovak students based on the level of development of critical thinking. Such experience provided an opportunity to develop and implement technologies to avoid informational and psychological impacts on the minds of Ukrainian students. It is extremely important in the conditions of constant Russian aggression in Ukraine when the Ukrainian community seeks membership in the European Union and strives for democracy.
