ABSTRACT:

The purpose of my presentation at the conference is to report on the progress of an ongoing initiative that integrates archeology into English language teaching and learning. By utilizing the data that were presented through archeological research, the students at Dhofar University (DU) authored and produced reading materials which are suitable for English language learners in the Sultanate of Oman. DU students were offered an opportunity to write their assignment with a purpose and intended audience. These materials will be further developed as a teaching tool and provide English language learners in Oman with a learning experience that is deeply rooted in Omani heritage. This project is aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is aimed to improve English language proficiency and to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of Oman’s archeological heritage, thereby contributing to cultural preservation and educational innovation. The output from this research project will involve the creation of fiction and non-fiction texts based on the archeological findings in Dhofar. It is my hope that this presentation will be able to offer a language teaching model that inspires similar efforts in other countries.
