ABSTRACT:

The prevalence of smartphones has brought about significant changes in various societal domains, and education is no exception. This presentation aims to provide a detailed overview of how smartphones influence university students and the educational landscape. The integration of smartphones into the lives of university students has resulted in both positive and negative outcomes. Educational apps have emerged as valuable tools, offering interactive and personalized learning experiences catering to diverse learning styles. However, concerns have arisen regarding potential distractions affecting students’ concentration and academic performance, particularly with non-educational apps related to social media and gaming, contributing to attention deficits and reduced productivity in academic settings. Educators play a crucial role in harnessing the potential of smartphones for educational purposes. Teachers are progressively incorporating smartphones into their teaching methodologies, fostering a more dynamic and inclusive educational environment. Nevertheless, the integration process necessitates careful consideration of equity issues to ensure universal access to educational resources, regardless of students’ socio-economic backgrounds. This abstract further explores the impact of smartphones on the development of essential skills among university students, including digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving. As smartphones become increasingly integrated into the academic environment, it is crucial to assess their influence on students’ academic and social growth. The study utilized a survey research design and questionnaires to gather data from 304 respondents, providing valuable insights into the multifaceted relationship between smartphones and the university learning experience.
