ABSTRACT:
The sustainability goal of Wanhua-BorsodChem Ltd. is to reduce water consumption and find the optimal recycling rate, ultimately reducing the amount of water withdraw from River Sajó by 1 million m3/year by 2030. For this reason, we use a multi-stage water purification prototype in the framework of the LIFE-CLIMCOOP “Cooperation of cities and local companies for climate adaptation” (LIFE19 CCA/HU/00132) project. During this project, we go through all the stages of the scale-up process, that is, from the small-scale model system to the creation of the large-scale production system. In the first phase, we tested a laboratory-scale pre-prototype, thereby optimizing the technical structure. After that we were created a container-sized multi-stage water purification prototype, which forms the central part of the project. We have already examined the recyclability indicators of two of our greywaters by the water treatment prototype at Wanhua‑BorsodChem Ltd. Wastewater Plant, but we are also planning additional operational locations in the near future. The prototype worked successfully, we were able to produce all water qualities that are used in the Wanhua-BorsodChem Ltd. plants. As a final step, in order to achieve our sustainability goal, it is necessary to prepare a feasibility study of an industrial-scale device.
