Sonic Therapeutic Intervention (STI) for Preventing Leadership Sex Scandals
Vasudev Das, PhD
ABSTRACT:
Leadership researchers often do not recognize the value of sonic therapeutic intervention in preventing leadership sex scandals. Grounded in Gottfredson and Hirschi’s self-control and Prabhupada’s sonic therapeutic intervention (STI) frameworks, the investigative inquirer explored the lived experiences of 10 STI practitioners regarding how STI prevents leadership sex scandals. Semi-structured interviews, purposeful samples, and document review were the data generation methods of the study. A diagnostic examination of the data from the transcription of interviews revealed five themes: STI facilitated consequentiality attitude, high self-control, post-conventional consciousness, pro-spiritual ideals, and self-regulation. The five listed themes facilitated leaders’ avoidance of sex scandals. The positive social change implications (PSCI) of the study include better human resource management, more influential personnel leadership, and purpose-driven leadership. The study results may also add value to values-based leadership, equity leadership, and more people-oriented decision-making in the private and public sectors. The findings may also help to mitigate the traumatic effects associated with sexual assaults and the loss of reputation concomitant with leadership sex scandals.
