Maigi Lepik, Kateriina Rannula, Liina Männiksaar
ABSTRACT:
For higher education institutions to thrive, a culture of integrity in academia should be considered of utmost importance (Bertram Gallant, 2010). Therefore, higher education institutions have agreed to promote and support academic integrity and to effectively address student academic misconduct, particularly plagiarism, collusion and contract cheating (Morris, 2018). The current qualitative study aims to explore how academic staff understand and apply academic ethics in different aspects of their daily work and capture their tools of academic ethics. During the COVID -19 pandemic academic staff faced new challenges in their work, which required rapid adaptation to teaching about virtual environments. The study will focus on the new situation and its impact on academic ethics. A pilot study will be conducted to test the methodology and data will be collected through two interviews with nursing lecturers at the college. An inductive content analysis of the interviews will be conducted. The pilot study will provide input for conducting the larger study and as a result will aim to ensure and promote the quality of higher education by supporting academic ethics as an integral part of education.
