ABSTRACT:
Child neglect is described as the situation where adults are incapable of meeting the needs, maintaining the wellbeing and providing protection for the children under their care. Child neglect is a common type of child maltreatment. However, it is diagnosed less frequently when compared to the other types of child maltreatment. The screening and monitoring of socio-demographic factors related with child neglect is essential to identify the parents who are at risk of neglecting their children as such parents must receive priority consideration in the efforts to protect children against neglect. Within this concept in this study, it was aimed to examine child neglect in terms of socio-demographic variables. The participants of the study will consist of secondary school students in Ankara, Turkey. The students will be administered an “Individual Information Form” in order to gather socio-demographic information. The students will also be administered “Multidimensional Neglectful Behavior Scale (10-15 Years Form)”, developed by Kantor et al. (2014), in order to assess their neglect experiences by parents. As with the analysis of the collected data, a preliminary analyis will be performed in order to test the normality of the data collected. Independent Groups T-Test and One Way ANOVA test will be performed to analyze the parametric data whereas Mann Whitney U Test and Kruskal Wallis test will be used to analyze the non-parametric data. As a result of the research, certain proposals as with the child neglect will be brought for the prevention of child neglect.
