Investigating The Use of Assistive Technologies for Students with Learning Disabilities
Walaa Attia, Hebatalla Kaoud
ABSTRACT:
The aim of this research is to investigate the use of assistive technologies for students with learning disabilities in Egypt. Data were collected from various sources using qualitative methods: semi-directive interviews, non-participant observation, and exploitation of secondary data. The study on the use of assistive technologies for students with learning disabilities in Egypt revealed difficulties encountered in using technologies in learning centers for students with disabilities: the lack of awareness of teachers and specialists on Assistive Technology, lack of training on Assistive Technology, lack of familiarity with the benefits of using it, limited programs used for students with certain disabilities and the existence of some financial restrictions imposed on the provision of technology services to the target group. According to the study’s findings, institutions must include technical education when hiring specialists because the use of assistive technology by those with disabilities in Egypt should be considered. The use of assistive technology and the creation of a new technological educational plan is important to carry out the professional development of teachers in accordance with educational requirements. Government can support students with dyslexia to use free assistive technology during their learning journey.
