One-Wan Musical in Museum: A New Normal of Theatre Experiential Practice in the COVID-19 Era
Nilobon Vongpattaranon
ABSTRACT:
This paper is aimed to explore the integration of experiential learning theory (ELT) with theatre practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to Thai government regulations, the theatre has been shut down, raising concerns for educators in drama and theatre practice because musical theatre practice for degree programs is place-based learning and requires experiential training. Therefore, the instructor created a hybrid learning method along with producing the first musical tour at Banglumphu Museum, located in a historical area of Bangkok, Thailand. One-Wan Musical in Museum has transformed David Kolb’s ELT into a collaborative project and become an edutainment tool for both degree students and the audience. This immersive guided theatre leads to a new normal trend of events in the COVID-19 Era and the future of theatre practice that goes beyond performing on a stage in a theatre.
