Finland: Good teachers make great schools

Jakub Adamczewski

ABSTRACT:

Everything is changing. We have modern technologies which we could not imagine twenty years ago. We have new schools with better equipment than ever but still the same teachers. We teach children that were born in times when the internet, mobile phones, and e-books were already present in society. Are we ready to teach them in an XXI century way? How should we change our curriculum, methods, and way of thinking about education? What tools should we use to inspire, encourage and motivate children to do more and better?

During my presentation, I will try to answer those questions based on my experience as a teacher and researcher with Finnish educational background. I will describe the modern Finnish comprehensive school and teacher education that is being perceived as one of the best in the world. Some of the findings come from my doctoral qualitative research conducted in 2022 and my previous teaching experience in Finland. The main aim of my talk is to encourage scientists in the field of comparative education to get familiar with Finnish education and its educational solutions that can be implemented in other educational systems around the world.
