The Trio Model: A new approach for Teaching Disciplines of Education Face-to-Face and Online

The current paper presents the Trio Model as a new approach in teacher education. This model aims to increase the coherence between introductory courses (philosophy, psychology, and sociology disciplines) taught in the academic module (Richmond et al., 2019). It is assumed that coherence could be achieved through common activities. The common activities, which usually take place in small groups, consist of stimulation and analysis. The stimulation introduces an issue in education while the analysis promotes a multi-perspective cognitive process. The common activities enable student teachers to incorporate and apply the theories taught in the three introductory courses to the same point in question, hence using them as complementary professional thinking tools. The activity results in a learning product, such as a short presentation, creative poster, or a play role proposing an optional solution. In COVID-19 reality, this model was being shifted to a synchronic online learning platform. In quantitative research, it was found that the model increased the relevance that the student teachers attributed to the introductory courses and their contribution to their professional development.
