Fostering Teacher’s Communicative Competence in English through Mobile Learning Strategies

ABSTRACT: 

This presentation sheds light on the preliminary results of a research project aimed at fostering teachers’ communicative competence in English as a foreign language by implementing Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) strategies while their progress in achieving communicative skills was monitored through an initial and follow-up test. It counted with an experimental group conformed by teachers from different faculties at Universidad Santo Tomás – Colombia, and a control group by teachers from a postgraduate program at Fundación Universitaria del Area Andina, both groups being the beneficiaries of MALL training courses. It was conducted from February to May in 2022. The instruments utilized to collect data were semi-structured interviews and surveys in those private institutions in Colombia. As a result, this presentation will display information related to the characterization and effectiveness of the strategies implemented and their effects on the development of communicative competencies bearing in mind the foreign language requirements for teachers established by the university.
