Some Benefits of Cooperative Learning in Saudi English Classroom

ABSTRACT: 

Scholars in Saud Arabia have been calling for cooperative learning for more than a decade. Cooperative Learning (CL) has been adopted in many countries in recent years. This paper focuses on the impact of CL in a 4-year Bachelor degree level EFL programme in Saudi Arabia. Around 80 students in the English Department at AlImam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, Riyadh, were interviewed to explore their opinions concerning CL in the EFL classroom. The results showed that EFL students had positive attitudes toward Cooperative Learning in the EFL classroom. It was also found that students’ prior experience of CL had an effect on their attitudes and academic performance on many courses during their programme of study.
