Influence Of Issue-Based on Taiwanese Junior High School Students’ Marine Awareness

ABSTRACT:
The ocean covers more than 70 percent of the surface of our plant. Ocean environment has much to do with human being. To maintain the marine ecosystem and prevent diversity from worsening, taking action on marine conservation is important. This research aims to arouse EFL (English as a foreign language) junior high school students’ marine awareness. This research examines the influence of issue-based class on 30 Taiwanese junior high school students’ marine awareness. Lesson plan, teacher’s reflection, pretest, posttest, interview are data collection. The followings are major findings, first, picture book is related to students’ life experiences. Students can have further discussions and think more about this topic. In addition, students have enhanced marine awareness through this issue-based in flexible curriculum. Finally, students have built up basic knowledge and skills to preserve the ocean. Suggestions on integrating issues into curriculum are provided in term material selections, interdisciplinary co-preparation, and activity designs.
