Nurturing Multimodal Nature of Young Children’s Learning: The Development and Evaluation of Guided Imagery Experiences (GIE) Model
Yi Hao
ABSTRACT:
While guided imagery has been widely used in the medical arena as a therapeutic tool and practiced as a teaching technique in elementary and secondary schools, little is known, however, about its effectiveness as a learning-teaching strategy in preschool settings. To fill the gap and nurture the multimodal nature of young children’s learning, a comprehensive teachers’ guide titled “Guided Imagery Experiences” (GIE) was developed. The model followed an exploratory study to collect qualitative input from a group of teacher candidates who implemented the model at their host school sites with the children aged 3-5 years. The input collected has contributed to the modification of the model in order to maximize its effectiveness.
