The Situation of Afghan Immigrants and Refugees in Iran and Their Role on the Iranian Labor Market

ABSTRACT:
It is for decades that the Middle East has encountered a huge number of refugees and asylum seekers. Now a days, there are millions of refugees and millions of displaced persons around the world, including asylum seekers and the internally displaced people. The wars in Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq have made the greatest share of the Middle East’s refugees and asylum seekers in the whole world. Islamic Republic of Iran is among one of the countries in the world with the largest number of asylum seekers, registered refugees, and forced migration with the majority coming from Afghanistan. Currently, an enormous population of Afghan immigrants live and work in Islamic Republic of Iran and most of them have face discrimination due to their nationality. This review investigated the situation of Afghan immigrants and refugees in Iran including the situation of education and housing, access to health services, and the impacts of Afghan workers on the Iranian labor market.
