Action-research methodology as a promoter of practical tools for gender equality in education

ABSTRACT:
Education for gender equality is located as one of the objectives to be achieved within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and, within the majority of European educational policies. Thus, in the Spanish context, laws have been developing for the promotion of gender equality and social inclusion from education since 1970. On the other hand, there is evidence of the importance of education in equality values for the correct prevention of inequality and gender based violence. Likewise, coeducation as a methodology for promoting gender equality within the educational system continues to be sporadic in the time in terms of educational practice. The insertion of the well-known gender mainstreaming within the educational curriculum has not been observed. This study aims to offer an analysis of a specific educational context for the development, together with the group under study, of an action plan for the correct incorporation of gender mainstreaming and coeducation within the academic curriculum itself and the educational system. The resulting work aims to be extrapolated to other educational contexts in order to offer a practical tool for advancing gender equality.
